Empowering families, elders, and youth across Santa Clara County through 18+ programs rooted in dignity and culture.
Since its founding, the African American Community Service Agency has held firm to a single conviction: that every person deserves to participate fully in the life of their community. From its home at 304 N 6th St in San Jose, AACSA has spent more than four decades doing the quiet, consistent work that transforms neighborhoods, one family at a time.
With more than 18 community programs running simultaneously, the agency touches nearly every stage of life. Seniors find connection and support. Students encounter pathways into science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Parents navigating hard seasons find a resource center staffed by people who genuinely show up. Volunteers who walk through the door looking to give often describe leaving with as much as they brought.
This is not a drop-in office. It is a living institution, shaped by the people of Santa Clara County and accountable to them. Rated 4.5 stars across more than 160 community reviews, AACSA has earned that trust the old-fashioned way, by being present, consistent, and deeply rooted in the culture it was built to preserve.
AACSA's programs are designed to meet people where they are, not where it's convenient for an agency. The Family Resource Center connects households to essential support. The Leadership Academy cultivates the next generation of community voices. STEAM educational programs give young people hands-on access to fields that will define their futures. For older residents, the Senior Citizens Program provides programming and community that counters isolation.
Beyond direct services, AACSA works at the systems level through policy and advocacy, pushing for equity in the decisions that shape daily life across the county. Community events, including the Juneteenth Festival, bring people together to celebrate history and culture. Diaper assistance, mental health support, membership opportunities, and facility rental round out an ecosystem built to serve the whole person.
If you want to give back, volunteering is open and welcomed. If your organization needs space for an event, the facility is available to book. Every program, every drive, every gathering points toward the same goal: a community that takes care of its own.
